According to the Congressional Research Service’s (CRS) analysis of CBP data, CBP officer staffing on the Southwest border increased 35% between 2004 (the first year for which data are available) and 2013, from 4,771 to 6,444 officers. During the same period, Border Patrol personnel on the Southwest border increased 94%, from 9,506 to 18,462 agents.
